Gulmarg expedition update - 25th Feb ...DANGEROUS !!
"Gulmarg is suffering from an extended period of very dangerous avalanche
conditions. After the tragic fatality on Feb 7th there have been some very big slides and close calls. Two members of a guided group got caught in a class 3. One of them was spat out early on but a snowboarder was carried 1 1/2 km but amazingly finished only buried up to his chest in the debris. Later the same week a patroller had a close call when he was ski cutting while roped up and the whole slope slid. He had about 20m slack so he fell and was under the snow briefly until the rope reached its end and the slide went by him. He was reportedly shaken up a little...So skiing has been limited to ridges trees until the conditions settle down."

Gulmarg expedition update - 16th Feb ...SNOW
"Its finally snowing in Gulmarg after a very dry January and lean start to Feb. A 3 day storm which brought snow even to Srinigar and closed road access to Kashmir has dumped an uncomfirmed 30-90cm and with the accompanying low temps, some of the lower tree skiing is open for the first time in 2 months. The large contingent of international ski bums here are rejoicing and hoping for more to come..."

Gulmarg expedition update - 7th Feb...AVALANCHE
"Unfortunately the Backcountry Logistics Kashmir expediation has finished early due to a tragic accident involving a friend on Gulmarg ski hill. On Feb 7 a class 3 avalanche buried Australian telemarker Shaun Krazter and we were unable to resucitate him after getting him free of the debris. Shaun was a well known skier and climber from Melbourne and will be greatly missed by the outdoor community there. Backcountry Logistics offers our deepest condolences to Shauns family. He died doing what he loved in the biggest mountains in the world. Having the privilage of sharing his last days with him we can say that he was loving every moment of his Himalayan adventure and his ever positive attitude and ever ready laugh will always be with us. RIP."

Gulmarg expedition update - 2nd Feb...WARM FRONT
"Warm and sunny weather in Gulmarg has had the ski bums out touring in full force over the last week. A solid alpine base of 2.5 metres and stable avie conditions(except lower down on South faces) has meant that everything is on, and some amazing runs of 1400 vertical metres have been had. Despite the high numbers of ski bums here, there is so much terrain that fresh tracks are still being had. A big dump is forecast for sunday, which may open up the skiing below the town and give us and extra 400 metres of classic tree skiing. Fingers crossed......"
