Portillo ski resort is nestled high up (2589m) in the heart of the Chilean Andes, on the border of Argentina. An area famous for the quality of its snow, the road leading up to the pass of Los Libertadores (3185m) offers good access to alpine terrain, with views of Anconcagua (6960m) which lies just 20 km away. |

The snow is equal to anything in the world in quality, but unfortunately the quantity can vary widely from season to season. Safer to visit in late winter/early spring as early season coverage is unreliable. |

Generally good. Long spells of fine weather with the occasional dump. It’s unusual to have long periods of low cloud and poor visibility. Of course very high up the weather is as unpredictable as in any high alpine terrain. |

Classic alpine. No tree skiing, just alpine bowls, chutes and faces. Long runs of over 1000m of vertical can be had. For the ski mountaineer, this area offers the best opportunities in Chile, with many peaks in the area pushing 7000m and are often skiable. |
