There is a wide variety of accommodation in Gulmarg, from very basic to luxury (for India!). The most basic start at about $10 a night and don’t have running water or often electricity. The next step up, at around $20 a double still don’t have running water but they are generally much warmer and have western style bathrooms and reliable electricity. Then there is a big jump to the up-market hotels starting at about $80. These have central heating, running water and generally look like a western hotel.
Be careful on where you book as the village is so spread out that you can be a 15 minute walk from the mountain, although the far end of town has good food and is more lively.
The locals from Kashmir Alpine ski shop (kashmiralpine.com) or Ski Himalaya (skihimalaya.com.au), an Australian tour operator, can sort you out with accommodation before arriving, or you can take a chance – but be warned that it is getting busier each year and cheap accommodation in Jan/Feb may be hard to come by. Check out kashmiralpine.com or himalayanpowderdreams.com for detailed info on the options for accommodation in Gulmarg. |
