The Hidaka Mountains are a 150km range stretching from the South Eastern coast northward. Ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 meters high, its highest peak is Mt. Poroshiri-dake (2,052 m). While not receiving as much snow as central or Western Hokkaido, the remoteness and scale of these mountains make them well worth the effort. Access is difficult but a couple of roads allow quick approaches. This area is more for the multi day tours and snow camping. If you have the time we can highly recommend the trouble of getting there – you might even bag a first descent. |
