When exploring this area, if you have a car you can quite easily stay in Grenoble. Otherwise, stay in La Grave which is a sleepy mountain hamlet with a few hotels. Don’t expect typical Alps après ski shenanigans, but do expect to meet many locals – La Grave is a village that just happens to be at the bottom of a world famous gondola. Check out:
